photoDokumentarci su disciplina koja podučava skromnost

    Agnes Varda

Documentaries are a discipline that teaches modesty

    Agnes Varda

The special New Year’s 31-32 double issue, a gift to dedicated Camera Lucida readers, begins with a poignant analysis by the Lucid regular Jean-Michel Frodon of Mohammad Rasoulof’s film A Man of Integrity, which “depicts a conflict rooted in the Iranian reality, finding an echo in the director’s own life”. Jonathan Rosenbaum revisits the work of Agnes Varda with a special focus on her Les glaneurs et la glaneuse in “Precious Leftovers (The Gleaners and I)”.  «Ex Libris, exploration of a real utopia in the heart of Americaby Jean-Michel Frodon reveals how Frederick Wiseman’s new documentary Ex Libris transforms the description of the New York public library into an extraordinary voyage of democracy. In Retrospectives,  Jonathan Rosenabaum “speaks about Godard with Kaja Silverman and  Harun Farocki”,  elaborates on Godard and Mièvielle’s Soft and Hard, discusses two kinds of criticism in “Le vrai coupable: two kinds of criticism in Godard’s work” and introduces a dossier in Farsi on Alain Resnais, prepared by Ehsan Khoshbakht in March 2012.

Festivals section brings exclusive festival reports of Malatya International Film Festival, Portoroz Festival of Slovenian Film, Manaki Brothers International Film Festival of cinematographers - Bitola, in “Touch the light” by Kiriakos Peftitselis, and Cottbus Film Festival of East European Cinema, in Alexandra Pütter’s The woods and the trees”. The reports are followed by interviews with Nataša Bučar, Director of Slovenian Film Centre, Sarajevo-based film director Elmir Jukić and Tunisian film director, novelist, painter/artist Nacer Khemir, with the three of whom I met in Portoroz, Bitola and Malatya, respectively.

More interviews with outstanding world film figures follow in the Interviews section: with Semih Kaplanoĝlu by Dejan Trajkoski (in Macedonian and English languages), Amos Gitai by Joan Dupont, Ivan Passer by Ronald Bergan and with Jan Harlan, the latter three translated from English by Nina Bukilić.

Mala educacion continues the second part of Anita Erak’s thesis: Second sex from Snowhite to Merida – construction of gender stereotypes and the impact on youth in Montenegro and introduces FDU students’ essays by: Sead Šabotić and Asja Šašić.

In memoriam pays tribute to Daniell Darieux, Walter Lessaly, Karin Dor and Anthony Harvey by Ronald Bergan.

Film industry in Montenegro is set to be better regulated and protected thanks to A-Prava Montenegro, a collective organisation acting as the strong mechanism for protecting the rights of right holders concerning different segments of copyrights and related rights in Europe and worldwide, which held their 1st Seminar on 28th November in Podgorica, gathering many local and international experts in the field.
