Uvod/Editorial
Zato naša rubrika In Memoriam novog broja daje posebnu, neočekivanu, počast Agnès Vardi, i u ovom broju, objavljujući dva teksta - Ronalda Bergana i Jean-Michel Frodona. In memoriam odaje počast Agnès Vardi u tekstovima Ronalda Bergana i Jean-Michel Frodona, i Bibi Anderson, Doris Day i Machiko Kyo-u u tekstovima Ronalda Bergana. Maja Bogojević |
The only freedom is when you can publicly and loudly doubt its presence – where is freedom? Miloš Forman (quoted in film Forman vs. Forman)
Last double issue of Camera Lucida (37-38) paid tribute to the grand figure of world cinema, Agnès Varda and was published online on 26th March, just three days before Varda died. Our great joy of her wonderful, unique interview with Joan Dupont, who described Varda as “a wave before the new wave”, turned into great and abrupt sadness upon hearing the news, in this eerie sequence of events. That is why In Memoriam of this new issue pays special tribute to Agnès Varda, in two texts by Ronald Bergan and Jean-Michel Frodon. The 39-40 double issue opens with a text by our new author, Tonči Valentić (Ph.D.), “Deleuze avec Lynch – Difference and Repetition in Twin Peaks” (“Deluuze avec Lynch – razlika i ponavljanje u Twin Peaksu”), in which Valentić connects ‘one the greatest philosophers of 21st century with one of the greatest directors in film history’, by analysing Twin Peaks from the perspective of Deleuze’s Difference and repetition. Our Lucid regular, Jean-Michel Frodon elaborates on the too often asked question in his “Are there (really) too many films made in France?”, while another Lucid regular Jonathan Rosenbaum returns to his analyses of films as diverse as Pleasantville, Nixon and Husbands. The focus of 39-40 issue are Film Festivals (in the order of their dates): a report on Istanbul International Film festival, by Kyriakos Peftitselis, my reports on this year’s new wonderful festival discoveries for me – Outview festival, Athens and Beldocs festival of documentary film Belgrade. Cannes festival is covered by illuminating daily reports and film critiques by Jean-Michel Frodon: on Jarmusch’s opening Cannes film The dead don’t die, “Loach and Almodovar: cinema of us and cinema of me”, “Three lights: of Bong’s Parasite, Deplechin’s Roubaix, une lumiere and Gu Xiaogang’s Sejour dans les Monts Fuchun”, and a special text on Cannes, “A particular day at Cannes” (all brilliantly translated into Serbo-Croat by Zumreta Trocellier), while another of new contributors, Vuk Perović, brings a detailed report on Montenegro’s successful presence in Cannes this year. Kyriakos Peftitselis reports from the lively festival of Cluj, a report of the new edition of the Montenegrin music documentaries festival, Rockumentary days, Underhill festival report by Miroslav Minić, and my two reports on the impressive International Film Festival of Karlovy Vary, another festival I was lucky to discover this year for the first time: a general introduction on KVIFF and my view on this years’ selection of East of the West, for which I was given the hard task of deciding on the best film as a jury member of FEDEORA critics. You will read vibrant interviews with Stefan Ivančić, a film director/producer and selector of Beldocs, with Pia Hellenthal, a director of award-winning film Searching Eva, screened at Outview festival (both by Maja Bogojević), with Nebojsa Slijepčević, director of also award-winning Srbenka screened at Underhil, by Miroslav Minić. A novelty of this issue is a text by the youngest Camera Lucida film critic so far, Nemanja Joković, one of the participants of Beldocs’ TEEN programme (dedicated to teenagers) and a young jury member, who writes about his jury’s winning film. In memoriam pays tribute to Agnès Varda by Ronald Bergan and Jean-Michel Frodon, to Bibi Anderson, Doris Day and Machiko Kyo by Ronald Bergan. Maja Bogojević
